Quilted: Wild in the Oak Woodland
The California Nature Art Museum presents its 2024 summer exhibition. California, Quilted: Wild in the Oak Woodland, running now through January 13, 2025.
Get ready to be captivated! This vibrant showcase features the stunning works of artist Julia Laraway, who brings the beauty of California’s Oak Woodlands to life in a truly unique way.
From butterflies fluttering among the trees to bobcats prowling the underbrush, California’s Oak Woodlands are teeming with life. Julia Laraway’s intricate fabric collages and quilts celebrate the rich tapestry of this vital habitat, capturing the essence of its flora and fauna with colors and textures that leap off the fabric.
Inspired by the landscapes she loves, Julia’s journey into quilting began alongside her mother. The hum of the sewing machine, the warmth of a hot iron, and the vibrant threads have always been a source of joy for her. Now, she shares that joy with you, inviting you to explore the wonders of the Oak Woodlands.
We hope this exhibition sparks a passion for these beautiful landscapes, which have already lost up to one-third of their space due to agriculture and urban development. Come experience the art for inspiration to protect California’s natural treasures.
